Mr Percival

Mr Percival

One of my favourite toy camera shots, these beautiful birds were wading on the beach at St. Leonards, west of Geelong, Victoria, where I managed to photograph them.

Camera: Colorflash Deluxe   Film: I can’t remember what film I used, probably Fuji.

Thanks all. Lisa, thank you so much, the Pelicans love you too, and so do I of course. (They will look good on your wall)
Regis ~ Thanks, I’m not sure if it’s the Colorflash’s lens or the film I was using (which type I can’t remember I think it was 160 NC) that gives the lovely pastel look. (probably a bit of both)
Nicolas, thank you ~ I got closer by making myself as small as possible and edging forward slowly. In some parts of Victoria the Pelicans are fairly tame and can be approached even closer, but these birds were a bit wary (as you can see by the couple in the air that had already taken flight)

Thanks heaps mattia, I’m really glad you like this one! You’d be amazed (or maybe not) at the amount of people who think this is actually a painting!
Angie, David, thank you both. I haven’t seen "Storm Boy" for years David, but Mr. Percival always stuck with me. I do remember it being a sad movie.
Thanks Drew. This is one of my favourite shots, because I love Pelicans (and the sea) so much.

Amazing. I have a Windberg painting "Pelican’s Warf", and this photo reminds me of it.

  15. Remarkable shot for the equipment. I ‘scored’ a Colorflash De Luxe in box with flash, flashbulbs etc. this weekend in a junkshop down on the Mornington Peninsula. It looks utterly unused and I’m looking forward to using it.
Makes a change from digital pinholing. :-)
