At 0530HRS the alarm went. We dragged ourselves out of bed and tried to wake up, grabbing some breakfast and organising the kids so we could catch the airport bus (which was late, leaving us standing in the early Melbourne chill wondering if we had been forgotten & if we should catch a taxi instead) for check in at Tiger Airlines, the budget airline of our choice for this holiday. Reams of text have been written about waiting in airports, so I’ll spare you the usual details, apart from the fact that security was kind enough to hand check my stash of film instead of irradiating it.
To cut a long story short, we are now at Alice Springs and are about to walk alongside the dry Todd riverbed into town from our hotel (when the children get themselves organized)
Back from our walk, we are still marvelling at the beautiful colours of the red dirt, ghost gums, other scrub trees and rock with a backdrop of the MacDonald Ranges against blue skies (with mare’s tail clouds which might mean rain in a few days).
Everyone was tired and cranky until we realized we probably needed to have a meal. That done we will settle early for the night to better appreciate “The Alice” tomorrow. I haven’t taken too many plastic shots yet but anticipate many will be…
