Barbie Gothic

Barbie Gothic

This shot may be rather dark, but I kind of like it a lot, being surreal and headless, something I often think the direction of my life has been. Only joking, I know where I’m going and what I’m doing, for sure! (Is this my beautiful Wife? ..and my beautiful House? How did I get here?) Ha!

Camera: Diana + pinhole aperture with lens attached    Film: Kodak 400 VC 2

This is a fantastic image! The light is great, especially the light coming straight down the middle. It’s like the doll, the bird, and everything else is in some kind of well or something.

Thanks for the comments Susan and Veerasundar, I really like the capabilities of the Diana + pinhole, I honestly didn’t expect this particular image would turn out as well as it did. In reality I was just looking to finish the roll of film!

I really dig it. Some of my best shots used to be when I was trying to burn the remainder of a roll of film. Serendipitous.

Back to the photo, just very cool. I’m not going to interpret it but it could say a whole lot of different things. Thanks for bringing it back so I could see it.

something dark and cinematic…makes me think (for some reason) of a dark secret hidden in the corner of the attic.

    wow, this is great.

I’m new to Diana – would you typically use pinhole with the lens on in a very dark setting?

Hi Adam, thanks for the visit and your comment. You can use the pinhole (with or without the lens attached on the Diana +) in almost any lighting conditions, but remember that the less available light, the longer (much longer in really low light circumstances) you need to keep the shutter open. When you expose film for long periods of time, a phenomenon called reciprocity failure starts to play a part in your calculation of exposure times. Usually I will expose 400 asa film (on the Diana + set on pinhole) for 1-2 seconds in bright, sunny conditions and approximately 30 seconds for subjects in shade, if it’s particularly deep shade I would double that time. If you are using slower film, such as 200 asa film I would double those times. With negative (C-41) film you have a bit of latitude with under or overexposure but slide film (E-6) is much more unforgiving! I talk about these things (amongst other film related stuff for ‘newbies’) a bit here: starting out Good luck and have fun!
