The Red Tractor

August 20, 2007

I have always liked tractors. One of the earliest photos of yours truly shows me sitting in a Massey Ferguson with my Uncle Mark on his property north of Albury-Wodonga (near the Victorian-New South Wales border). I remember our visits up there quite vividly. Uncle Mark used to show us how to catch frogs too. He would fill the laundry sink with water and then pull the plug, we would all rush down to the bottom of the garden to see the frogs being washed out of the drain. It was probably a bit mean on the frogs, but I didn't think about that as a kid, I just thought it was all great fun. We let them go afterwards, no doubt to go back up the drain. I always knew I was in the country when I could hear Frog calls. Frogs are a good indicator of how healthy an environment is. Too much pollution, and you just won't see (or hear) them around. I'm fortunate that we hear frogs where we live. Don't see them that often, as they are shy little creatures, but we know they are there!
Anyhow, enough rambling from me, I really should get to bed. Got to work on the Wedding photos from the weekend tomorrow. Cheerie bye.
Oh! This is a shot of my Father In Laws Tractor, a Massey just like Uncle Marks.

Camera: Empire Junior Film: Probably Fuji NPC 160, but I honestly can't remember and the negs are stored away somewhere too fiddly to get to at the moment!

I think all boys love tractors, and when they grow up they want those ride-on lawnmowers. Sweet nostalgic shot, Cameron. Loved the story to go with it, too.

Haa! My husband was nick-named "Tractor Boy" before I met him, because he lived on a big acerage that needed a tractor to mow the lawn. And I was nick-named "Tractor Girl" before I met him, because, well.... I tried to pass a combine harvester on the wrong side of the road and it crushed the car I was driving.

Love your ramblings there; no need for apologies. We have lots of frogs here, too. They are Cam's favourite animal.
I used to collect tadpoles as a kid, but mine never grew into frogs...
