A Little Gothic

I call this a "still-death" as opposed to still-life, because, let's face it, the dead bird, empty sea-shell and plastic doll in this composition can hardly be thought of as "alive, but just keeping very, very still" Nope, they're dead, departed, snuffed it, or in the case of the doll, had never been alive in the first place. Which is just as well, because they did have to keep very, very still, for approximately 180 seconds whilst I exposed them through the approximately ƒ 200 aperture of my new pinhole camera. This image shows the advantage of the nearly infinite depth of field a pinhole camera gives, allowing me to place the camera approximately 5 cm away from the closest subject (the shell) to get a nice close-up shot. It also shows some distortion at the margins of the photo produced due to the wide-angle nature of this pinhole, which I think is related to the distance from pinhole to film-plane. (fascinating, eh?)
Taken on Polaroid type 87 (3000 ISO) film, in the garage using ambient lighting. The Pinholga camera was on a tripod of course.

Thanks Angie, I'm still playing with the pinhole thing, I think you would like it! You can make your own, apparently they're not that difficult (and if your not a slacker like me who went and bought one!)

Hi Cameron.

Nice work on the pinhole stuff... I love pinholes, but haven't been working with them much lately.

Am I correct in understanding this is done with a holga-pinhole-polaroid contraption? Can you give some more details on the exact constuction?

Thanks Jason. yes it's a pinhole holga, with the polaroid back. More details sent in an email (as you know) ~ I wish I had taken the time to build it but I'm a slacker!
