Return the Sun

May 25, 2007

Grey skies flee
Return the Sun to me
My bones feel cold
So flower lift your face
Return the Sun its rightful place

I just made that up! ...is it any good? mmmm, I thought so, oh well, hopefully you'll like the photo if not the poor poetry. I love sunflowers, I love their bright big yellow faces. I haven't seen too many this year.
*Note ~ a new category is introduced! My extensive polaroid camera collection gets a reasonable workout from me and many of these cameras have not only plastic bodies, but plastic lenses as well, so I thought it was about time I gave them their own category. Even though most have auto-exposure, and classics like the SX-70 have glass elements, the quirky nature of their various lenses and of the polaroid film itself leads me to (rightfully I think) include Poloroid photos into the plastic lens repertoire.
The qualities of the chemistry of Polaroid film include unique colour, tone and just what I would call a special feel not very scientific, I know, but let's not try and take things too seriously here!
Here is an example of one of my favourite polaroid shots, full of tasty artefacts so often evident in expired film, streaks similar (yet different) to light leaks and colour shift all act to add an unpredictable zing to this and indeed almost any given polaroid shot, thus making every one a blessed surprise.

Camera: SX-70 with (very) expired Time Zero integral film.
