Federation Bells

March 11, 2007

This is a view of just a few of the Federation Bells a metal and brass forest of 39 bells standing within a small field in Birrarung Marr in Melbourne, alongside the Yarra river. I only discovered them a couple of years ago, which is typical, seeing as they were officially unvieled in 2002, so I suppose a Melbourne "native" discovering something as magical as these in his home town 3 years after the event is not sooooo bad!

Anyway, I captured this particular photo with my Diana F loaded with Fuji 160 NPC soon afterwards.

It's great to be able to show visitors to the city these (and other) treasures. Don Brice was visiting Melbourne on a photo shoot earlier this year and we had a toy camera meet-up, where I was privileged to introduce him to these bells for the first time. I'm happy to say he seemed quite taken with them and captured some nice Black & White shots with his "Shakey" Diana-Clone. Once upon a time you could see his capture of them here, but it looks like Livejournnal ate his images! Buy the June issue of Black & White Photography instead!
