Heat Engines

We had a family get-together at my brother's house recently and I took the opportunity to capture some pinhole images of the various interesting objects he has sitting on the bookshelf in his study. He collects old books, light globes, valves, vacuum tubes and the like as well as old cameras (he in fact had the bug way before me and he tells me he is sure there is an old Diana camera sitting in a box somewhere in the storage area of his roof, he just hasn't found it yet)
So this shot is one of a sequence of a few (until I got it as close to right as I was aiming for) of a large globe (who knows what from) in front of some of Dave's old books. I particularly wanted to capture the title of the book that gives this shot its name refracted through the globe properly. It was quite dark in David's study so I used a hand-held flash and set it off perhaps 30-ish times (I wasn't counting) to illuminate the subject matter adequately.
I realised that these pinhole holga shots have all been taken using the holga with a polaroid back, and thus have used polaroid film, so they probably should also be archived in the Polaroid as well as Pinhole category. One of the reasons I like Polaroids is not just for their cameras, but probably even more so for the unique properties of their various films, (especially the expired varieties, as regular visitors to this strange little photoblog may have noticed in the past)

I would like to take this moment to say a big thanks to all the visitors who have commented on my images. No doubt the plastic lens has had a bit of extra traffic coming it's way due to the photoblogs.org recent "hall of fame" inclusion. I appreciate the visits and comments very much and will try and answer all feedback as soon as I can, but in the meantime, my sincere thanks to all.

Fantastic! You've done a magnificent job of capturing the vintageness of the subject. (Is vintageness even a word?)

made me think this was a scene from the study of Sherlock Holmes for some reason; i could imagne his place full of interesting itmes like these.

i am blown away by this, cam! reminds me of the "fortune teller" machines from the 50's.

just fantastic! can't wait to see what else you got from your brother's house.
