Jun

April 23, 2007

The other day when I was visiting my brother, I wandered around a bit (as I usually do) taking photos using the pinhole Holga camera. I had it set up on a tripod and this young man walked by. He stopped and looked on and I had a chat with him about photography and such. Jun (for that is his name) is an exchange student from Japan studying International Relations. He kindly posed for me and we exchanged email (in my case website) addresses. When I got home that evening he had already emailed me with a great interest in wanting to know more about toy camera photography after visiting this site. Maybe we have another convert to plastic and film!!
In the meantime he had been very inventive and creative in his own right and sent me some photos he had taken using his digital camera in different ways. A couple of shots in particular were great, having been shot through the neck of a glass bottle giving great refraction and distortion effects. Even though it's not a traditional toy camera shot in that it was generated digitally, it stands in the same sort of class as some of the excellent through the viewfinder shots I've seen, so I have uploaded Jun's "bottled sky" here to the site for consideration. If Jun ever does pick up a toy camera we will have an impressive new talent in the field I think!

Thanks again, Cameron.
I'm really happy to be here as one of your beautiful collections.
I like your naming of my pic "Jun's bottled sky".
Cheers,

Thanks Jice, and of course, thank YOU Jun, for without people such as yourself posing for me this site would be bogged down with my poor family member's mugs and my abstract scuplture and architecture shots!
Cheers!

Wonderful portrait, and a great story to go with it.

Thank you Lisa, he was a really nice guy. The world's a pretty good place really I think. (Just don't watch the evening news)
