Elevator to Nowhere

June 4, 2007

Of course, it does actually go somewhere, it goes up, or down depending on where you start off, but it looks like it doesn't go anywhere to me from this vantage point. Reminding me almost of a Jeffrey Smart scene, (at least it would have been if the sun was shining brightly with harsh shadows including a solitary human figure somewhere in the picture), this tram stop just out of Melbourne's CBD took my fancy.
Camera: Diana 151 with Fuji NPC 160. Overcast day, "cloudy" setting.

Love the shot and your commentary too. Sometimes it's good to take the journey, even if it seems that it doesn't go anywhere.

Thank you Otto, Lisa, Angie and Wslaat, much appreciated.
Regarding journeys, Lisa, this is so true. Sometimes I think of photography as a journey, finding the right composition, light and moment as the trip, with the resultant photograph as the destination. All the components and experiences of the excursion are satisfying!
I'm pretty crummy dealing with overcast skies, so I'm going to make it a personal challenge this Winter down-under to overcome my reservations photographing under grey skies.

I like the ornage shaft very much. I am so surprised that you can use this film even on an overcast day...respect!
