Walking Under an Angel

May 30, 2007

I took this photograph yesterday, just before the grey skies closed in completely and unleashed the rain.
For some reason this is probably one of my favourite photographs taken with my Diana so far. At least the most favourite that doesn't actually involve my loved ones which I like for more obvious personal, sentimental reasons. Liking this shot may have something to do with the fact that I've always been very fond of this sculpture, a different view of which, complete with explanatory details can be seen here. From my early 20's I can remember it standing in the moat of the National Gallery of Victoria which I used to visit whenever I was in the city, so it represents to me not only the colourful art life of Melbourne, but some of it's spirit also. So maybe that's why I like it so much, I'm sure there might be some "technical" reasons like composition and so forth, but hell, thinking about that sort of stuff sometimes makes my brain hurt...

If you like it, perhaps you could please tell me why...

i can't believe the incredibly funky and huge art pieces you have the pleasure of living near. you shot this at the perfect time, cameron. the skies just add to the mystique.

This is a great shot and if I took it, it would be one of my favorites, too.

Thanks people, I'm glad you seem to like it as much as I do! I think the fellow walking below the sculpture really added that extra something to the composition, not just a sense of scale (although of course that helps!)
Cheers all, have a great weekend!

Wonderful Cameron..love the saturation in this shot..I know I have said it before but you really work that 160 film well through the plastic camera...I always have to stay on a high ASA...perhaps I'll try something slow in the harsh Cretan light

Thanks Phil, I love what this film can do, but if I hadn't had the "cloudy" aperture on the Diana, this shot might have been a bit under-exposed. Personally, I think you could do wonders with this film in the Meditteranian light.
