Hydrant Leaking Light

Taken a while back near Smith Street Collingwood, the plastic fantastic had a few issues with light leaks (or perhaps it was me when I unloaded the film, it could have been a ‘fat roll’ but I can’t remember now) whatever the cause I quite like the effect.

Even though I haven’t blogged about it this year due to laziness, family commitments, study, work, life, the universe & everything (and the dog ate my homework) – we have had a world toy camera day (well it was a whole weekend) this year and I did manage to take a few Holga and Polaroid Colorpack shots. Most were taken on Sunday the 10th October and most were taken in one of my favourite spots (when I am on that side of town) underneath the freeway, just near the Flemington Rd entrance, heading out of Melbourne towards the airport and beyond.

Well, those of Christian beliefs do say he is everywhere, which kind of freaks me out if I think about it too deeply, but this particular shining example of the saviour I found in the Dandenong Trash & Treasure sidewalk market one day. This is yet another shot taken with the cool Waist level Finder Holgamods Holga, Randy really does do a great job with his Holgas.

Frankston in Large Format

Drifting a long way away from plastic lenses with this shot. It is taken with my latest camera, a Polaroid 110A that has been converted to take 4″ x 5″ sheet film by a talented man named Dean Jones, who luckily for me I met a few years ago at a Sunwrae concert and who works just a suburb away from me. This is a marvelous hand-held coupled rangefinder that shoots large format! The negatives from this camera are just incredible, I love shooting with it. That little white dot at the far left border of the image (near some seats) is, on examination of the full size scan of this negative, very obviously a seagull. The detail above the carpark & MacDonalds sign at right clearly shows individual wires on the roof of the shops behind. I’ll be posting an entry about this camera shortly in the words part of the plastic lens.

Storm Over Red Bridge

This image of the bridge at Caribbean Gardens, Melbourne had some weird colour shifts which I have determined to be a combination: of slightly hotter than recommended developer & blix bath, scanner peculiarities and my monitor calibration. I would have uploaded a colour-corrected version but people seem to like this so I shall leave it be. I have since developed a different version from another roll of film I shot this day that seems to have more accurate colour rendition but this first shot certainly has generated a bit of interest on flickr.

Most people who have grown up or lived in Melbourne for any length of time would know the central Flinders Street Station. “I’ll meet you ‘Under The Clocks’ has been a favoured rendevous point for many generations. This is an extended exposure taken around twilight at Flinders St Station –
